What's my role?
I am the UX Designer responsible for conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

User Research
Through the creation of empathy maps and competitive audits, I was able to understand the user group for Atlas Art Studio. The research did show the importance of both a clear schedule and an events page to be front and center on the website as that is what most users would be looking for.

Pain Points:
Pain Point #1
Busy lifestyles make it difficult for users to remember when their classes are.

Pain Point #2
When searching for things to do on the weekend in their community, users did not know art shows were an option.

Pain Point #3
Sometimes people don’t show up to classes or drop out before paying which can cause classes to look fully booked when they are not.

User Personas
-Design Beginnings-
Paper Wireframes
By taking the time to hand draw each screen of the app, I was able to determine what elements needed to be transferred over to digital wireframes.

Digital Wireframes
By creating digital wireframes, both the design layout and the user flow become much clearer.

Low-fidelity prototype
Using my completed digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype. The primary user flow was to discover the classes and events happening at the art studio.

Usability Study
During an unmoderated usability study, 5 participants were asked to navigate the website. A System Usability Scale (SUS) was then used to further understand the performance of the app.
Participants had no major issues navigating the website but often commented on the need for a less cluttered design, therefore the design was simplified even further as the design process continued.

-Refining the Design-
Mockups
Early designs were helpful in creating a basic layout, but many other design elements were added to help the users conceptualize using this website to book classes or check out local art news and events.

Before/After
After a second usability study was completed, several changes were made to the website’s calendar design and function.

High-fidelity prototype
The final high-fidelity prototype for Atlas Art Studio meets our users' need for a website that allows them to:
-discover local art events and news
-sign up for art classes

-Final Thoughts-
Impact
The Atlas Art Studio website makes users feel interested in joining art classes and events featured at the studio.
“I really want to explore more art events in my community and this is the perfect way to do so.” -Study Participant

Next Steps
The next step would be to do another round of research testing to determine if all pain points have been effectively addressed.
